Combined Shore/Thruster Converter

The combined shore-thruster converter system is a multi-purpose inverter system designed to operate for different applications. During maneuvering and DP the system is used to drive the thruster motor, while during shore/docking the same switchboard is used to power the main switchboard with shore voltage.

The combined shore-thruster and energy storage converter system is a multi-purpose inverter system designed to operate in different applications. During manoeuvring and dynamic positioning, the system is used to drive the thruster motor as well as delivering power to the main switchboard. During shore time, the same switchboard is used to power the main switchboard with shore voltage. In case of high load demands, the energy can be taken from the storage system to avoid the start of additional generators. Furthermore, the system can deliver power to the main switchboard to provide a short time, non-diesel generator operation. The shore converter system supplies power to the main switchboard with shore voltage. The system is fully compatible with all types of shore supplys and complies with worldwide shore-grid regulations and restrictions. The shore converter can be designed as a standalone system or can be integrated into a hybrid system.

The shore inverter system is designed according to project requirements. Every system parameter such as power rating, overload capability, main busbar voltage will be customized for each project.

Shore Input:

  • one or more Shore lines with each 50 A to 1700 A 3-phase
  • 180 V to 520 V 3-phase (normal)
  • 180 V to 720 V 3-phase (for 690V MSB network)
  • 45Hz to 70Hz output power 50 kVA to 2500 kVA per unit

Hybrid Grid Converters

The hybrid grid converter system supplies power to the main switchboard using multiple power sources. This multi-purpose inverter system includes shore voltage supply, solar power input, an energy storage system and a fuel cell generator. The system operates as virtual 3-phase generator and its main purpose is to replace a traditional auxiliary diesel generator onboard the vessel.

Due to the compact design, the system is an excellent solution for limited space and weight applications. The system assists with the bypass of energy, ensuring minimal black-out risk during power redundancy of the ship’s energy generation. This allows the engine to operate within the optimum design range, where it has the highest efficiency and least emissions.
