Integrated Thruster Control System
The Integrated Bridge Thruster Control System (TCS) is an independent and customizable bridge automation system for all types of main and auxiliary propulsion systems. The TCS was designed to integrate the thruster systems from all major propulsion manufacturers into one clear thruster control system.
Keynote
Traditionally, every thruster manufacturer delivers a thruster control system with its own bridge control panels. Operating stations that have lots of main and auxiliary thruster systems are mostly not user optimized because the thruster panels are too big and they are located too far from the operator. It is nearly impossible to have a good overview of all systems.
The TCS replaces the old bridge panels with a minimized operator interface that consists of control levers and failure indicators. All non-critical functions are shown on the multi-function stations. On the one hand this solution provides a clear view of all propulsion systems, while on the other hand it reduces the size of the bridge consoles because the old panels are no longer required.
Furthermore, the TCS standardizes the take-over procedure and provides an additional central take-over to allow access to all controls simultaneously with one button. The TCS is particularly suitable for an IBS with a captains chair. All thrusters can be controlled from the chair, while the thruster functions can be used with the help of the MFD Station in the chair.
Flexibility
The integrated central command transfer system provides the best usability for transferring multiple thruster control systems. The system supports various control stands in the wheelhouse. Interfaces for DP, joystick control and autopilot are integrated. Other external systems such as VDR, Conning and the Ship Alarming System are connected via a serial NMEA communication. The TCS can be adapted to all kinds of thruster configurations and wheelhouse designs.
Working principle
The TCS thruster interface is connected directly to the thruster room controls. To optimize cost, the system uses the same interface as the old bridge panels delivered by the thruster manufacturer. All hardwired thruster indicators and push buttons used in the old bridge panels are now displayed on the MFD touch screens.
Web-terminal and alarming
The control system is equipped with a remote diagnostic and monitoring system. The diagnostic system indicates with a clear text alarm message all kind of failures. The system allows access to the diagnostic system with a simple web browser from the office or a local touch screen, and provides the operator with a clear overview of the system status.
